Frostbitten (1962) a still life that shows frostbitten apples in the daylight of an old window sill. There is a sense of abandonment in the painting with the timeworn sill, and the intriguing presence of forgotten apples that are aging in the stark silvery winter light. Wyeth’s motif of windows in his work has been seen as a reference to death, a passage into non-existence.
